Overview
Trajectory is a personal job application tracker designed to support an active job search while building practical experience with Django REST Framework and React.
The project centers on keeping applications, company information, contacts, and interview notes connected. Its main workflow emphasizes what needs attention next: following up with a recruiter, preparing for an interview, or completing another application step.
My contribution
My work centers on designing the application’s data model, API requirements, and frontend workflows. The core model connects companies with applications, contacts, and interview rounds, while tags support filtering across applications.
Technical notes
Prioritizing actions over statistics:
The dashboard design sorts applications by their next-action due date, helping answer “What should I do today?” Each application stores its own next action and deadline, keeping this workflow simple without introducing a separate task-management model.
The tradeoff is that it supports one immediate next action per application rather than a full task list.
Designing history from the beginning:
The blueprint includes automatic activity logging from the first version. Recording status changes and interview events as they happen preserves context that would be difficult to reconstruct later.
Company research is also modeled at the company level so it can be reused across applications and interview rounds. These decisions reflect the project’s central principle: organize information around how it will be used during a real job search. The next milestone is verifying the core workflow end to end before adding the later features.
